Fern Trail In Northeastern Wisconsin along Lake Michigan, innovative electronic features have increased access for people who are visually impaired or physically disabled to experience the Fern Trail in Newport State Park. Hand-held audio discovery pens are available at the Nature Center to connect and give audio descriptions for seven visual and tactile interpretive exhibits along the trail. Five of the seven exhibits have sculptured clay elements that invite trail users to touch them, such as a clay fern frond or different sized birds’ eggs for comparison. The trail starts in the woodland area and ends at the lake.
